About
Us
Prompted
by the need they had identified to give a voice to writers from
the North West of Ireland, Prin and Betty Duignan founded Drumlin
Publications in 1989. They aimed to meet the growing demand from
both writers and the public, for books about and from their own
areas, which was not being served by the established publishing
houses.
Immediately on starting, the company took full advantage of the
opportunity to 'desktop publish' afforded by the advent of personal
computers. The business has proven a great success ever since with
much well received work having been published over the years. There
has also been no shortage of aspiring authors with many more book
drafts regularly submitted than it is ever possible to accept for
publication.
From its beginnings the company has specialised primarily in the
publishing of works dealing with aspects of the local history of
Leitrim and the surrounding counties. These include parish histories
(e.g. Dromahaire - Story and Pictures)
and a special series focusing solely on the social history of North
Leitrim. Several biographies, family histories (e.g. McDermott
of Moylurg) and books in the Irish language have also been
produced.
Since the issuing of the firm's 1st book, O'Rourke of Breffni
(now out of print), some 30 different titles have been published.
All have been edited by Prin, a former teacher and a writer himself,
who acknowledges that the historical appreciation he acquired through
taking an MA in History has greatly aided in this work over the
years.
Drumlin Publications have also been responsible for the typesetting,
design and layout of several books published by other sources.
The
latest book to be brought out by the company, Seán
MacDiarmada,
The Mind of the Revolution,
is the most ambitious project to date. With the national
significance of the work and the quality of the scholarship involved
it is envisaged that demand for this book will run to several thousand
copies. |
