Patrick
H. Sheerin was born in Dargoon, Co. Leitrim. He received his
early education at Dargoon National School and Drumkeerin
Vocational School. In the late fifties he emigrated to England
and worked at sundry jobs. He attended night school classes
in London and then went on to London University where he was
awarded a B.A. degree in modern languages. A year of P.G.C.E.
at Cardiff was followed by a period teaching French in southern
England. In Franco's last years he emigrated to Spain, a country
to which he had always been attracted. 'After Franco's death
I liked it even better. I married there, settled down, had
a family and started work in the University of Valladolid,
where I did a Ph.D'.
Patrick
Sheerin is still working in Vallodolid University where he
teaches English Language and Irish Literature.
Four
of the poems in this collection, 'The Kings', 'A Hundred Years
of Solitude', 'The Yankee' and 'Sonny' appeared in the Irish
Press 'New Irish Writers' page.
